This month, students from the Forest Ridge School spent time making artwork for our community garden here at Rainier Valley Food Bank. Students spent their Friday afternoon painting mural pieces and then came over to RVFB to hang them up!

Sun Bucks for the Summer
Families with children can get extra money for groceries this summer with SUN Bucks!
This federal nutrition program provides families with $120 per eligible child to purchase food during the summer, providing a boost in grocery budgets when school meals are unavailable.
How to enroll: Some children are automatically enrolled, while others need to submit an application. Use the online screening tool to determine whether you need to submit an application.
If your child is likely to be automatically enrolled, confirm that their school (or DSHS, if you receive SNAP/TANF) has your correct mailing address to receive your SUN Bucks card without delay.
Together with the Free Summer Meals program, SUN Bucks are here to ensure your family has nutritious food all summer long. To learn more about these programs, visit FreeSummerMeals.org.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, also known as AAPI Month, is an annual observance in the United States that recognizes the historical, cultural, and social contributions of people of Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander descent.
According to the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC), the theme for AANHPI Heritage Month 2026 is “Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together.” We recognize that same power in the many ways it shows up in our community, from the many volunteer shifts that it takes to power our program, to the guests who show up to shop together, and the neighbor who helps bridge a language barrier, serving as a translator.

Your generosity always leaves us feeling grateful for the community we've cultivated together. This year, 205 neighbors came together to help nourish our service in solidarity for our collective work towards sustained food access in South Seattle, raising over $93,000.
Last month, we hosted our annual Book Fair - Feast on Books: Food For Thought, connecting our neighbors to books, resources, and food at this one-stop shop.
