Feeding Change: A Panel Discussion

There is no good reason for anyone in Washington – a state with immense wealth and resources – to be hungry. And yet, 1 in 10 neighbors are struggling to access enough food to feed themselves and their families. Proposed budgetary and policy decisions at the federal, state and local level have the potential to either aid or hinder our collective efforts to address hunger in our community. Join our food bank and a panel of local experts and change makers at Town Hall on Thursday, March 20 at 7:30 PM, as together we explore the root causes of hunger, community-led solutions, and the actions we can each take to build towards a hunger-free future. Tickets are sliding scale starting at $10 with free admission for ages 22 and younger.

Did You Know?

There are more than 60 languages spoken in our community. 35% of Rainier Beach residents and 22.1% of Seattle residents ages five or older speak a language other than English at home. The most commonly spoken languages in our neighborhood are Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Amharic, and Tigrinya.

Embracing the many languages is one way we acknowledge and honor the diversity in our neighborhood. RVFB and other food banks also recognize community identities by sourcing culturally relevant foods that reflect demographics and seasonal celebrations, such as halal meat, kosher products, greens, Bok choy, and black-eyed peas for the new year. Offering culturally celebratory foods empowers our guests to choose nourishing options they enjoy and resonate with. How do you celebrate your culture or our community through food?
